“All this was inspired by the principle – which is quite true in itself – that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily…” ~Adolf Hitler
Imagine trying to claim that in the last 50 years, most natural causes of climate change have been replaced by human addition of CO2 to the atmosphere. Incredible as it sounds, that’s exactly what the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has done. Here is a quote from the 2007 Report:
Another unusual aspect of recent climate change is its cause: past climate changes were natural in origin (see FAQ 6.1), whereas most of the warming of the past 50 years is attributable to human activities.
In a complex deception, the IPCC established a false result – the unproven hypothesis that human CO2 was causing global warming – then used it as the basis for a false premise that justifies the false result. It is a classic circular argument, but essential to perpetuate the phony results, which are the basis of all official climate change beliefs and policies.
Machinations involved in the establishment of the UN agency include the restrictions created by the definition of climate change to “only those changes caused by humans” and the bureaucratic structure designed to prove that human CO2 was the problem. These are gradually being understood by more people as proper scientific testing and challenges occur after being deliberately delayed for political advantage.
Few know the basic ideas behind the global warming fiasco were developed to advance the Club of Rome’s 1960s belief that overpopulation, promoted by industrial development, was destroying the world. It’s no coincidence that Obama’s Science tsar John Holdren, was a co-author with Paul Ehrlich whose book The Population Bomb was extremely influential on world thinking. It continues today, even though all the predictions they made were grossly in error. Holdren continues with his misrepresentation of the facts. In a November 6, 2007 presentation at the Harvard Kennedy School titled Global Climate Disruption: What Do We Know? What Should We Do? he said, “Global warming is a misnomer,” “It implies something gradual, uniform, and benign. What we’re experiencing is none of these.” These are political comments with nothing to do with science or the facts.
Global warming is not a misnomer, but the trend over a chosen length of time. For example, the world has generally warmed over the last 18,000 years as it emerged from the last Ice Age. Or, in a shorter period, it has generally warmed from the nadir of the Little Ice Age in 1680. Holdren confuses a trend with the overall pattern of the actual climate change. He claims the current change is not gradual, uniform, or benign – and therefore abnormal. It is not. What is abnormal is uniformitarianism, the prevailing paradigm of western science that change is gradual over long periods of time. This false paradigm allows alarmists, like Holdren the IPCC Reports and the mainstream media, to claim that natural events are unnatural. They are not, and they’re not increasing in frequency either.
But let’s counter the claim that CO2 has overridden all natural causes for the last 50 years. Only a couple of simple examples are necessary.
Figure 1 shows the change in Earth albedo produced by the Earthshine Project.
Albedo is a measure of the percentage of solar energy reflected back to space without imparting heat energy to the surface. The change in albedo equates to a change in energy received; as Figure 1 shows, it is approximately 10 watts per square meter (W/m2) for the period of record. The red line is the IPCC’s 2.4 W/m2 of accumulated forcing for all manmade greenhouse gases. All of this is within the last 50 years and makes a mockery of the IPCC claim.
The IPCC claim,
Data correlation and model simulations indicate that solar variability and volcanic activity are likely to be leading reasons for climate variations during the past millennium, before the start of the industrial era.
However, solar variability and volcanic eruptions continued through the industrial era. For example, Pinatubo in 1991 had these impacts:
In 1992 and 1993, the average temperature in the Northern Hemisphere was reduced 0.5 to 0.6°C and the entire planet was cooled 0.4 to 0.5°C. The maximum reduction in global temperature occurred in August 1992 with a reduction of 0.73°C.
The latter exceeds IPCC claimed temperature increase of 0.6°C for the last 130 years.
The circular argument is completed as follows:
It is very unlikely that the 20th-century warming can be explained by natural causes. The late 20th century has been unusually warm. Palaeoclimatic reconstructions show that the second half of the 20th century was likely the warmest 50-year period in the Northern Hemisphere in the last 1300 years.
Two key components of this claim were the 0.6°C temperature produced by Phil Jones. He consistently refused to release his data, and later said it was lost. The second component was suppression of earlier warm periods by the discredited hockey stick. It was also falsely warm because of the reduction in the number of weather stations used to calculate the results.
Figure 2 shows the plot of decreasing number of weather stations and global temperature.
Maurice Strong’s quote that it is our responsibility to get rid of the industrialized nations became the idea that global warming due to human production of CO2 was an ideal vehicle to achieve that goal. Strong used the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to create the IPCC with a definition of climate change that restricted their investigation to only human causes. This restriction required justification that created a bizarre and intellectual legerdemain.
It’s incredible that the IPCC and those responsible for its formation, structure, research, and reports convinced the world they were a scientific organization making valid scientific statements. The entire impossible enterprise was designed to prove that human CO2 was causing ultimate destruction of the Earth through runaway global warming. It makes the most preposterous claim imaginable – that human production of CO2 has overridden all natural forces for the last 50 years. The opening quote from Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf is frighteningly appropriate for what the IPCC has created and achieved.
